Newly Priced MacBook Airs...Now With a Thinner Price Tag

By Ree-Hyeon Kim on July 2, 2014

With MacBooks lighting up classrooms like glowsticks at an EDM concert, it is no wonder why so many students want to grab one. Now, with the newly priced MacBook Airs, it can be possibility for those with a college student budget!

The MacBook Air first stunned the tech world with its release in 2008, showing that advanced and fast laptops did not have to be bulky with a lot of details, but can fit into a manilla folder (little reference to Apple’s way of showing just how thin the newly priced MacBook Airs were in its commercials). Now, in 2014, the design has not changed much; it is still crazy thin and looking sleek in its signature aluminum body and black keys. Only measuring up to 0.11-0.68 in. thin, and weighing in 2.38 lbs (the 13 in. being 2.96 lbs), it almost baffles you to think that you are holding a laptop.

Do not be deceived by its minimal design, underneath its shell packs quite a punch. Sporting a 1.4 GHz dual Intel processor, 4GB or 8GB storage and up to 512 GB of flash storage…that is a whole lot of computing power for any assignment, project or just hours of Netflix and Youtube streaming!

Yeah, Yeah, Yeah….most students really do not care about these little technical details about how fast it is…so what else makes this laptop stand out? Did I mention the 12 hour battery?…YES! You did hear correctly. The newly Priced MacBook Airs (13 in.) can last up to 12 hours on one charge with standard use, and the 11 in. still lasts 9 hours. So, no more packing your bulky charger to the library or coffee shop because it will not die on you suddenly.

Now, starting at the price of 899 dollars for the 9 hour 11 in., or the 12 hour 13 in., a significant $100 drop…the newly priced MacBook Airs do not seem too far off the budget. Again, 900 dollars is still a lot of money, but let me explain it to you in a different way. You are buying the newly priced MacBook Air not to use for 1 year, but in hopes that it will last you a few years, meaning that you will not be paying for another laptop and will be satisfied with the one you have. MacBooks have an estimated longevity of about five to six years, my early 2011 macbook pro is still running perfectly and it has been a good three years since I purchased it. Other laptops like a Lenovo, which are somewhat cheaper than MacBooks, usually have an estimated longevity of around three to four years; that is a whole good year that it might break down and you’ll need to buy a new laptop.

So, you craving some Apple? With the new release of the newly priced MacBook Airs, it is about time that you treat yourself to a great piece of technology that will make your life a little easier on campus.
