Indians vs. Twins 7/22/14
The Cleveland Indians defeated the Minnesota Twins 8-2 on Tuesday as Danny Salazar picked up his second win of the campaign after being called up from AAA Columbus.
With the win, the Tribe inched closer to obtaining a wild card spot in the American League. Being only two games out may not seem like much now, but the Tribe are a half game behind the New York Yankees and the Toronto Blue Jays. Currently, the Los Angeles Angels and Seattle Mariners hold the two AL wild card spots respectively.
With their last series ending in a 3-1 edge over the Detroit Tigers, the Tribe has been able to jump the Kansas City Royals in the AL Central, now only being five-and-a-half games behind Detroit.
Carlos Santana, Lonnie Chisenhall and Nick Swisher all scored in the second inning. Santana scored again in the fifth inning, as he was the only Indian to hit a home run. Swisher scored again in the ninth inning after he was brought in by a Yan Gomes double to center field. Gomes would later go on to score in the ninth inning with Jason Kipnis and Chris Dickerson.
Oswaldo Arcia scored in the fourth inning for the Twins and Brian Dozer hit the Twins’ solo home run in the seventh inning.
The Tribe will play the Twins in the final game of their series on Wednesday at 1:10 p.m. on the MLB Network.
