Rape Allegations May End Sam Pepper's Career

By Camilo Echeverri Bernal on September 29, 2014

For those not familiar with the recent events surrounding the British YouTube celebrity’s scandal, this might be fairly irrelevant and new. However, for those who have been following his antics, this might come as a bit of a shock. This last incident may end Sam Pepper’s career.

Pepper has recently been accused of rape by several women. This surfaced after a video in which he was seen sexually assaulting women on the streets. He claimed that it was a social experiment. The videos have since been taken down.

Laci Green, also a well-known U.S. YouTube celebrity wrote a public letter to Pepper, asking him to stop with those pranks. She was also among the first to speak on the rape allegations against Pepper.

The allegations from three women surfaced a week later after the aforementioned video. Those allegations include asking for nude photos from underage girls, to physically assaulting and proceeding to rape them by forcing them to perform fellatio on him, and even by forcefully penetrating them.

“He was taking advantage of the fact he knew I and many other girls would fangirl over him,” said Bryony Harris of Wessex, one of Pepper’s victims.

Since both incidents, Twitter erupted in rage. Even now, the comments and the pleas to have him arrested, and even the claims of him being arrested are being tweeted and re-tweeted non-stop on the #SamPepper Twitter tag.

As a result of all this, the company who employed him, Collective Digital Studios, has since fired him. It simply cannot be denied that these kinds of actions have and will continue to go public. This trend of male YouTube stars taking advantage of their fan-base has got to stop.

Pepper has also been banned from VidCon by Hank Green. Green said on his Tumblr page:

“But his previous track record shows a complete disregard for the impact of his videos on the world, and even if he is not abusing women in his videos (which it seems quite clear that he is) he is certainly perpetuating a culture of abuse that doesn’t mind when women are forced into submission for a laugh … as long as the cameras are rolling …”

Pepper has yet to come out with a formal apology. He has neither confirmed nor denied any of the allegations. As of today, his follower count has dropped considerably.
